History[edit]
Adobe first announced they were developing a new interface design and prototyping tool under the name 'Project Comet' at the Adobe MAX conference in October 2015. This was in response to the rising popularity of Sketch, a UX and UI design-focused vector editor released in 2010.[3]
The first public beta was released for macOS as 'Adobe Experience Design CC' to anyone with an Adobe account on March 14, 2016.[2] A beta of Adobe XD was released for Windows 10 on December 13, 2016.[4] On October 18, 2017, Adobe announced that Adobe XD was out of beta.[5]

Adobe XD creates user interfaces for mobile and web apps. Many features in XD were previously either hard to use or nonexistent in other Adobe applications like Illustrator or Photoshop.[6]
- Repeat grid: Helps creating a grid of repeating items such as lists, and photo galleries.
- Prototype and animation: Creates animated prototypes through linking artboards. These prototypes can be previewed on supported mobile devices.
- Interoperability: XD supports and can open files from Illustrator, Photoshop, Photoshop Sketch, and After Effects. In addition to the Adobe Creative Cloud, XD can also connect to other tools and services such as Slack and Microsoft Teams to collaborate. XD is also able to auto-adjust and move smoothly from macOS to Windows. For security, prototypes can be sent with password protection to ensure full disclosure.[7]
- Voice design: Apps can be designed using voice commands. In addition, what users create for smart assistants can be previewed as well.
- Components: Users can create components (previously known as symbols) to create logos, buttons and other assets for reuse. Their appearance can change with the context where they are used.
- Responsive resize: Responsive resize automatically adjusts and sizes pictures and other objects on the artboards. This allows the user to have their content automatically adjusted for different screens for different sized platforms such as mobile phones and PCs.
- Plugins: XD is compatible with custom plugins that add additional features and uses. Plugins range from design to functionality, automation and animation.

Throughout the course I’ll invite you to participate in a real-life freelance project which I’m working on. It’s a project that requires a fresh website and mobile app interface. This will prepare you for dealing with real world projects if you choose to move towards a UX/UI career path.
This course is aimed at people interested in UI/UX Design. We’ll start from the very beginning and work all the way through, step by step. If you already have some UI/UX Design experience but want to get up to speed using Adobe XD then this course is perfect for you too!
First, we will go over the differences between UX and UI Design. We will look at what our brief for this real-world project is, then we will learn about low-fidelity wireframes and how to make use of existing UI design kits.
I’ll go over all of the essential tools necessary for creating excellent wireframes, including: type, colours, icons, Lorem ipsum, artboards, prototyping, models and popups, symbols and repeat grids. We will even make use of the new prototyping app so that you can experience your prototype on your mobile device.
An important part of maximising your UX Design workflow is being able to utilise other software such as Photoshop and Illustrator. This is why I’ll be teaching you how to make use of both to help boost your XD productivity.
One of the awesome new features of XD is micro-interactions. I’ll be teaching you all about those and how to use them to grow icons and scenes. This is one of the parts of web design that’s growing and being adopted rapidly so you won’t want to miss out on learning it early.
There are two class projects for you to complete during this class, these will help develop your skills and will give you something for your own portfolio.
It is now time to upgrade yourself & learn Adobe XD.
